Yuri:
I have had small mercury diffusion pumps made for me by California Custom
Glass, a custom glassblower, for several carbonate/sulfide/sulfate
extraction lines. I am not sure whether he is still in business as he was
near retirement age 10 years ago, but the design is basically similar to
those sold by Kontes, part number 924360-0000 or 924370-0000. They are
two-stage mercury diffusion pumps having a vacuum-jacketed mercury vapor
riser. For the first one, the pumping speed is 6 L/sec, at an ultimate
vacuum of 1x10-7 mm, while the second one has a pumping speed of 10 L/sec
at the same vacuum. The second one requires 250 mL of mercury. Kontes
also makes several small oil diffusion pumps. Check their web site at
http://www.kontes.com/html/Home.html
for more details.
By the way, I have about 300 mL of native mercury that I have been trying
to sell for some time. Any takers?
Steve
Dear Isotopists,
We wish to set up a small diffusion pump in our O2-line, but have no idea
where to get it. Those of you who use this, did you buy it or made yourself?
If somebody uses a home-made construction could you so kind to share its
design with me.
Thank you very much
Yuri
