Ana-Voica:
Since I have an Optima with the MultiPrep carbonate device, I am not sure
who the manufacturer is of your pumps, nor am I sure from your message
whether your pumps are only 3-4 months old or have been running for a 3-4
month period but are actually older pumps. In any case, with the Edwards
rotary pumps that I have used, systematic oil loss usually indicates that
either or both the oil box gasket or the shaft seal has degraded. More
rarely, the loss could be due to leaks from the drain plug or oil level
sight glass. Differences in the ultimate vacuum achieved when the pumps
are used to evacuate the glass vacuum line and when they are backing up
turbo or diffusion pumps in your mass spec may be the cause of the apparent
lack of a leak with the vacuum line.
Hope this helps!
