Annual Mount Zion Hike
Vermont history and mountain views will be combined on the fourth annual
guided fall hike up Mount Zion in Hubbardton on Sunday, October 7, 2001,
from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. The hike is offered by the Hubbardton Battlefield
State Historic Site and will be led by Carl Fuller, historic site
interpreter, and Jonathan Czar, retired Green Mountain College botany
professor. Fuller and Czar will discuss important points of the battle, as
well as the flora, fauna, and geology of Mount Zion.
The hike is an easy to moderate climb and will follow a trail developed by
Kit Davidson. Mount Zion offers spectacular views of the lower Green
Mountain range, and is the only vantage point from which the entire
Hubbardton battlefield can be seen. After the hike participants are invited
to explore Davidson's Japanese garden at the base of the Mount.
Meet at the Hubbardton Battlefield State Historic Site--on Monument Hill
Road 6 miles off VT Route 30 in Hubbardton or 7 miles off exit 5 on US Route
4 in Castleton. Carefully follow the signs. Admission is $1.00 for adults
and free for children under 15. For more information call (802) 273-2282.
