I am making enquiries regarding the extraction and recovery of organic
material trapped in speleothems for carbon isotope analysis. The trapped
organics are largely acid soluble so that when the carbonate is
dissolved by addition of HCl the organic component ends up in solution.
Is there a simple procedure available which will allow the organics to
be recovered as a solid without including any inorganic precipitates?
