I'm not too sure. Perhaps, the calcification is related to abnormal serum calcium phosphate levels that some of these patients experience - but this is just a guess.

We too have seen calcified veins many times. It is usually observed in the diabetic patients and also seen in patients like yours, who are on dialysis. I can't tell you an exact frequency but we see it several times each year.

One of our renal dialysis patients was found incidentally to have heavily calcified veins throughout bilaterally during a recent arterial duplex study.
We have seen mild venous calcification on patients before but our vascular surgeon has never heard of it.
Have other people out there any experience ? .
