Susan and I have counted the birds on the wires for
quite a few years. We find it can be informative. We
learned that on a sunny springlike day after a few bad
weather days, we find lots of red tails out looking
for a meal. We recently returned from a trip to Texas
and as we drove along in southern Illinois near the
Mississippi river, counted 65 (likely) Red Tailed
Hawks, 18 Kestrels, 1 Kildeer and 2 other raptors
(unidentifiable at that speed) in one hour. We were
sure surprised the numbers were that high. Some times
writing them down really improves the information.
