Nice outing today for Team Pipit with the highlight a Pectoral
Sandpiper, seen well near the west pool (duck pond?) at the
goose-viewing area at Dead Creek. This bird was about 3-4 weeks early,
I would say.
Three locations we visited are worth keeping in mind:
1) The goose-viewing area at DCWMA. Light was tough when we were
there - but even so we could see there was a lot of waterfowl, including
good numbers of Green-winged Teal and Northern Pintail. Nearby, at
Brilyea Access, there were both Common and Hooded Mergansers and a
second-year Bald Eagle.
2) Cornwall Swamp had large numbers of Canada Goose, Northern
Pintail, Mallard and Black Duck. Also about 10 Wood Ducks, some
Bufflehead, and about 5 Ring-necked Ducks.
3) The fields west of Walker Road and south of Little Chicago Road
in Ferrisburgh. Light was terrible when we were there (early morning
would be much better) but numbers of geese and ducks were
