Dreamy Duskywing (Erynnis icelus) was flying along an old logging road in
mixed, regenerating woods at Groton State Forest Monday.
And last year's seemingly good flight season for Baltimore Checkerspot
(Euphydryas phaeton) seems to be paying off, at least at one wet meadow in
East Montpelier, where hundreds (probably thousands) of larvae were out in
a hayfield feeding on plantain (Plantago lanceolata) and nearby on American
fly honeysuckle (Lonicera canadensis). Not much turtlehead (Chelone) up yet.
