Harley- Do your references to Classic mean booted into Classic, or running the Classic "emulator" while booted into X?

MAC:

* To run native in X there is Netscape 6.2.3.
* Running NS/IE in Classic doesn't see hardware corectly
from what I can see.
* IE native just plain doesn't work for some reason.

         Mac solutions:

Safest bet is still NS 4.77 or IE 5.1.4(classic apps.) run natively
 - as opposed to under X - I think this is true right now mostly
because NS 6 is not battle tested for WebCT all 'round.

If one has a newer Mac and are taking a course that uses the CDROM tool,
then it is safest to boot up into a pre-X OS version (8-9.2)

Macs almost always load the video right away.

PC:

On Windows 2000, IE 5.5 seems to run the best but IE 6 seems even
slower as it seems to have to load all the content into cache before the
Quicktime plug-in will even play.

Netscape 4.78 loaded my video in short order, and though it looks like
it is still download/caching, it WILL PLAY DIRECTLY off the CD. This is
important because the reason to use such a tool is that you do not have
to depend on bandwidth concerns (or speed of caching etc.)


On Windows '98, IE 5.0-6 have worked.

Netscape 4.7 does better since it does not have to load it onto the hard
drive before playing.

Again, this was observed on rather large files (on this Physics cd they
range from 2MB - 109MB)
