Nine birders surveyed Plymsbury WMA in Shrewsbury
today. Despite the late season, 43 species were
noted. It was a real exercise in birding by ear.
Highlights included: 3 broad-winged hawks (very
good looks), 1 turkey, 7 winter wrens, 6
golden-crowned kinglets and 1 ruby-crowned
kinglet, 1 indigo bunting, 4 blue-headed vireo, 2
hermit thrush and 1 wood thrush. Birds of the day
were cedar waxwing, red-eyed vireo and
white-throated sparrow, with 21, 17 and 18,
Warblers included: 3 Nashville warbler, 1
northern parula, 5 chestnut-sided warbler, 7
magnolia warbler, 11 black-throated blue warbler,
3 yellow-rumped warbler, 8 black-throated green
warbler, 1 blackburnian warbler, 1
black-and-white warbler, 9 ovenbird, 1 northern
waterthrush, 2 mourning warbler, 10 common
yellowthroat, and 1 Canada warbler.
