The following were seen and heard during an early
morning paddle around Leffert's Pond: 1 osprey
(with a pretty nice fish); 1 wood duck; 3 great
blue heron; 3 common snipe; 1 belted kingfisher;
2 winter wren; 1 American redstart; 2 hermit
thrush; 1 willow flycatcher; 3 brown creeper; and
12 cedar waxwing among others.
Later at Chittenden Reservoir, warblers included
1 black-throated green warbler; 4 black-throated
blue warbler; 4 ovenbird, 2 common yellowthroat;
and 2 black-and-white warbler. Also, 6 common
merganser and 2 winter wren among others. And, in
honor of the day, a bald eagle (whose picnic was
being somewhat spoiled by three ravens).
I was surprised at how vocal the warblers still
are.
