My admittedly limited experience with Common Wood Nymphs (Cercyonis pegala)
reveals that, at least in the Eastern Piedmont of Vermont, that the
yellow-patch form seems to show up from about southern Orange County
southward. (Saw many in Windsor County on Saturday.) Here in Washington
County I see mostly dark forewings.
In any event, I'm really enjoying that butterfly now -- like semi-sweet
chocolate.
