The Chester RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD continues to visit a feeder at the home
of Ginny Freeman on Flamstead Road. It was present as recently as today. Her
number is 802-875-2750. Ginny reports that one or two RUBY-THROATED
HUMMINGBIRDS also still visit her feeders.
A highlight of this weekıs hawk flights was a pair of GOLDEN EAGLES over
Putney Mountain on the 17th. Over 3000 BROAD-WINGS were counted between the
14th and the 18th. Other notable species included 46 OSPREY, 9 BALD EAGLES,
and 2 NORTHERN GOSHAWKS on the 16th. At Mt. Philo in Charlotte, 1069
BROAD-WINGS were seen on the 16th along with 40 OSPREY and 11 BALD EAGLES.
Up to 16 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS have been feeding this week in a
freshly harrowed field near the intersection of Bostwick and Beach Roads in
Fewer shorebirds have been at Dead Creek as the flats dry up even more.
Species seen on the 13th include Semipalmated Plover, Killdeer, Greater
Yellowlegs, Lesser Yellowlegs, Solitary Sandpiper, Semipalmated Sandpiper,
Least Sandpiper, Baird's Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpiper, and Short-billed
Dowitcher. 31 GREAT EGRETS were also present.
An eastbound JAEGER was seen off the west shore of Grand Isle on the
16th. A RED-BREASTED MERGANSER was present on the 18th.
At Red Rocks Park in South Burlington, 13 species of WARBLER were
tallied on the 14th, among which was a TENNESSEE. EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE,
SCARLET TANAGER and ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK were also seen.
Atop Stratton Mountain, BICKNELLıS THRUSHES were heard calling on the
18th. Apparently, they call a little more frequently in the next two weeks
before migrating out.
At West Rutland Marsh on the 19th, 3 AMERICAN BITTERNS, 13 GRAY CATBIRDS
and 9 MARSH WRENS were counted during the monthly census.
25 Gray Catbirds were at Union Village Dam in Thetford along with GREAT
CRESTED FLYCATCHER, an AMERICAN PIPIT, and 10 species of Warbler including a
A SANDHILL CRANE, probably the same individual that has been in
residence along the Connecticut River near Barnet, was reported seen in
Peacham with WILD TURKEYS.
