Digital Film Festival
Internet2's prototype Digital Film Festival will highlight short
documentary works by students and showcase the ability to deliver
digital film and interactive critiques over Internet2. On October 30,
a judging panel of award-winning filmmakers will announce two winners
from the eleven finalists and will critique the winning films with
the student filmmakers via videoconference.

Cultivating Communities: Dance in the Digital Age
This event will feature live performances by both onstage and
remote musicians and dancers. The technologies used in the
performances will include uncompressed video and audio, interactive
3-D animation, and a rare 10.2 Immersive Audio experience presented
by USC's Academy Award winning Integrated Media Systems Center. This
event will highlight the capabilities of Internet2-enabled
collaborations and the talents of technologists and performers from
our member institutions.

Digital Video Demos
Taking advantage of our proximity to the entertainment industry,
many of this year's demos will showcase cutting-edge technologies
for video and audio streaming.
- At the Davidson Executive Conference Center, Motorola Labs will
highlight streaming multimedia over handheld devices with Access
Grid nodes. inSORS will demo their commercial Grid product.
- The National Marine Sanctuaries will stream live MPEG-2 video
from three underwater cameras, coast to coast, using VBrick codecs.
- RADVISION will demo their viaIP MCU and gateway with a multipoint
videoconference using both H.323 and SIP-based endpoints.
- VRVS will provide gateway functionality between Access Grid nodes
and desktops and between Access Grid nodes and H.323 systems.
- Digital Video Transport System (DVTS) will demonstrate how consumer
equipment can be used for sending and receiving digital video streams
using IPv4 or IPv6.
- At the Robert Zemeckis Center for Digital Arts, the ResearchChannel
Consortium and University of Washington will demo options for
extremely-high quality video and audio distribution over Internet2,
including HDTV over IP, Video-on-Demand (including MPEG-2), multicast
MPEG-2, and uncompressed stereo audio over IP.
- NTT Network Innovation Labs will use a large-venue LCD projector
to display a super high-definition digital video stream originating
from their lab in Chicago.
- At the Integrated Media Systems Center (IMSC), an "immersipresence"
application called Remote Media Immersion (RMI) will use sustained data
rates of up to 60 Mbps over shared networks.
Meeting attendees will also have the opportunity to tour the
state-of-the-art facilities at the Zemeckis Center and at IMSC.

Digital Video Meetings In conjunction with the member meeting, the
Digital Video Initiative will host its annual meeting, a ViDeNet BOF
will be held, the VidMid working group will meet, and Commons Site
Coordinators are invited to meet one another at a luncheon.

Commons Site Coordinator Training
Site Coordinator training for the Internet2 Commons videoconferencing
service will be held immediately following the Member Meeting,
October 30-31. This training, co- sponsored by CENIC, will be taught by
nationally recognized professionals in digital videoconferencing. Some
of the training topics include: audio and video basics,
room/environments
conditions for videoconferences, and operating and troubleshooting
procedures common to videoconferencing systems. Hands-on training with
equipment will be included. There is no charge for this training, but
registration is required:
