Hi Brad and others who have commented,
At West Rutland School, we are running Follett on a Win98 (and one Win2K
machine) platform. We haven't had any major problems with the software
and the librarian seems quite happy with it.
We have just begun to use the Find It All option from within Follett,
which we all really like. This is an internet search option from within
the card catalog. I really like this for younger kids doing research on
the Internet, as I feel it is an added measure of safety. Even with
ScreenDoor internet filtering, I worry about what younger kids might
accidentally find while doing a search. Find It All limits their search
to search sites we specify and therefore tends to result in more useful
and appropriate sites for elementary students.
I have a question for other Follett users. Are any of your schools
running Follett on both Macs and Windows platforms? I've seen comments
from schools with both platforms separately, but not comments indicating
both platforms accessing the same library catalog. Our librarian is
itching to get a Mac and add it to his 5 Windows machines. Thus far,
the $600 additional license to run Follett on Macs is holding him back.
Before I consider mixed platforms (and I've already been told by one
tech. colleague not to do it!), I want to be really sure that this won't
raise some incompatibility issues or added support hours I don't have to

Subject: Follett Library Automation
We're considering using Follet's Library Automation software on
server running 9.2.2. The software includes Circulation Plus and Catalog
Plus, The installation would cover two schools K-12 on a contiguous
network under one roof.
Has anyone had experience with this software and this company?
comment to me (off the list if you prefer) your experiences and the
"gotcha's" you later discovered?
