Anyone still read Joe Bastardi's weather column? I was looking around this
morning and found it for the first time in a while and he has a reference
to the New England ski areas:
"Last week we told our ski areas from northern New England into Canada once
the midweek storm is by, get cranked up. Why? It will take at least 2-3
weeks to come out of this pattern to warm up there and by that time the
normals are low enough so as long as there is no megaridge, they can keep
making snow. In addition unlike last year, it is very unlikely given the
current parameters that we will see a repeat of the warm November. If
anything the signal for these areas is normal to below. This is an example
of how long range forecasting can work for a given industry."
Looking at the long range models, seems what he is saying has some
truth...Killington could be open in 7-10 days; other areas could probably
open too but they'll wait till mid November and their fixed opening dates.
