Hi Folks,

Based on Amy's comments below, maybe I should of emailed or call each of you
last night. The was no incident at the school yesterday. Yesterday a man
was seen walking down route 100B with a rifle. The man was seen putting the
rifle under his camouflaged jacket. Roberta was notified of this and as a
precautionary measure called the State police. The police responded
quickly, did a low key search of the school and the surrounding area.
Roberta called me and informed me of what was going on and told me that a
trooper would stay while the kids loaded the bus and that all staff and
teachers would leave by 3:15. I talked to the State police around 4:15PM
and found out that they knew who the man was and that he had been hunting
and was walking home and put his rifle under his jacket to protect it from
the rain. The police were very comfortable with this explanation but agreed
that the next morning they would have a couple of troopers in the area but
felt that there was never a threat against any of the students (the
lieutenant in charge is also a Barre school board member). All of the
procedures taken by Roberta were precautionary and appropriate. The
situation was handle very effectively and Lieutenant Harrington complemented
me on how well Roberta dealt with the issue.

As always topics that are important to board members will be placed on the
agenda.

Kent
