The School Boards of Townshend & Brookline (both quite small) have been
exploring combining some of their upper elementary classes. For the near
future, these class sizes will be quite teeny and this would be an excellent
opportunity to broaden horizons for these kids.
However, when numbers are calculated, the savings in terms of reasonable
class size and less total staff is more than offset by loss of the Act 60
Small Schools Grant.
This is very unfortunate because part of the essence of Act 60 is to improve
educational opportunities for our students.
Are any other school districts exploring such options? What are they
learning during this process?
If those of you on Muninet could forward this email to parties who may be
interested in sharing, can they get back to me ([log in to unmask]) and
I will forward same. Then they can set up direct contact with each other.
It seems that there is no equivalent of Muninet for the school systems, so I
offered to send this request out.
Thanks. Miki, Townshend Treasurer
