Gastrocs are deep to the deep fascia so are regarded as deep veins. If thrombus is detected, our docs do a repeat scan in 3 - 7 days unless it extends to within 2 -3 cm of the popliteal. Patient will then be treated on an opt basis with lovenox, unless has sx of PE, whereupon they'll get a lungscan +/_ adm.
