I will "impugn the "quality and credibility" of the ICAVL" based on my
personal observations of "accredited" labs out there. When is the ICAVL
organization going to put some teeth in it's standards by performing
site visits and seeing if what is sent in as policy is actually in place
and happening. ICAVL further discredits itself by accepting
substandard credentials. I think I may establish my own testing body
and offer the venous tours by TJ credential. If I pay the right people
do you think ICAVL will accept it as well.

I am very disappointed that a past-President of the SDMS would impugn
the "quality and credibility" of the ICAVL based on innuendo, anecodote
and unsubstaniated rumors. The ICAVL has been for the past ten years
and will contiunue to be the epitome of objectivity and professional
excellence. It continues to be the ONLY sonography-related
organization that actually has raised the bar, from an actual practice
perspective, for some sonography professionals. That their standards
are high and may be labor-intensive to achieve does not diminish the
impact that the dedicated men and women of this organization have had
on the varied sonography-related disciplines over the past ten years. It
is also rather arrogant to suggest that the ICA Board of Directors,
which consists of distinguished and well-respected members from all
sonography (and medically related) disciplines SDMS included, would
change their well-studied position based on the parochial ! unhappiness
of a particular constituent group.
This level of dialgoue belongs in a gossip column, Joan.

Many sonographers and vascular technologists were very disappointed at
the ICAVL board's decision to do this. Hopefully they will change their
mind especially if they see that you can take one exam and fail and take
the other and pass with honors. That does have a drastic effect on the
quality and credibility of what they are doing by accepting both
credentials. Rumor has it that quite a lot went on related to this Board
meeting which was also disappointing.
