When you speak of Fox Sparrows "at your feeder", do they eat from the feeder, on the ground under the feeder...? I have had one for over two weeks (or several stopping by) but it is very shy - staying under evergreen trees most of the time doing the "scratch dance" and only occasionally venturing out in the open only to rush back to cover when other birds or activity bother it. I have never seen one on or even under a feeder. I have feeders both in the open space in my yard and in the edge of the heavily treed area. I am intrigued by this bird that I have seen for the first time this year and would like to know more about it's habits.

I have been entertaining (or vice versa) 5-6 fox sparrows at my feeder for
the last 5 days along with all the 'regulars'. Never have seen so many at
once. They are quite late compared to any records I have on former
years. Ruth
