On Thanksgiving day we saw a Northern Flicker (seems a little late, but the Robins are still around in droves) and the Northern Shrike. Must be they know Monkton is the northern most town in Addison County!
On Saturday around 3:30-4ish there was a Red Tail Hawk in one of the Shrike's trees so he wasn't around. And at the intersection of Old Hollow Road and Rotax Road I saw something fluttering in a tree. I checked it out with my binos and it was just a part of an old wasp nest. As I brought my glasses down, just to the left of that spot about 10 feet away a Barred Owl dropped to the ground, picked up something, then flew into the woods. I tried calling him back but he wouldn't listen. When I returned to the house there was a Cooper's Hawk in the tree just above my feeders.
On Sunday morning Ron saw the five turkeys coming in to eat around 7:30. A few minutes later he said they were swawking something fierce. He looked out to see what was going on and a Bobcat was coming into their general vicinity. They split up; some flying into the trees and some continuing on further into the woods. We were afraid they would get separated again, but when we went down the Hollow Road about 30 minutes later they were out in an open field. I guess they figured they were safer out in the open.
