The responses to this topic can easily be summarized: According to an
information from the NLM there was a problem with the PA(PX) trees which
is
apparently is fixed now.

But I was also glad to recieve message from colleagues who confirmed my
observation and who shared my concerns. Thank you for your replies.

Library locks itself out of own Web site
Associated Press

PIQUA, Ohio - The public library in this western Ohio community has a
name problem.

When Director James Oda tried to access the library's new Web site -
www.fleshpublic.lib.oh.us - to show it off for the library staff, the
library computer denied him access.

"There must be a glitch in the system," Oda said as he tried again.

Again, he was denied access. Then Oda realized what had happened.

"We banned ourselves," he said Thursday.

Oda said he never gave much thought to the library's name - named 70
years ago for businessman and benefactor Leo Flesh. But Net Nanny, a
filter the library uses on all the children's department computers,
rejected the entry for "flesh" linked to "public."

"Growing up in Piqua, I don't think we give it much thought," Oda said.

"But when I was in the service, my mom - who worked at the library at
the time - used to send care packages in these little plastic bags that

said 'Flesh Public Library.' There was a whole group of Army guys who
had a lot of fun with that."

A change in the Web address - www.piqua.lib.oh.us - has allowed the
library to access its own site.

Subject: Bad med research articles?

**cross-posted**
Hello. First, I want to thank everyone for the help &
info I've received on my previous requests. I will be
posting summaries on those (Neat MeSH terms, Case
Studies articles, etc.), hopefully next week or so.

Anyways, now that I've sweetened you up, I've got
another request. :) We're trying to get students to
look at articles that illustrate significant outcomes
& have a good study design and then look at articles
lacking that. We're finding several "good" articles
on therapy & diagnosis, no problem. The hard part is
finding articles that have insignificant results
and/or are of poor study design. Does anyone have the
citations of such "bad" articles?

A "bad" therapy article would not satisfy some or all
of these components:
*random allocation & treatment
*patient follow-up
*analysis of randomized groups
*number needed to treat
*number needed to harm
*confidence interval

A "bad" diagnosis article would not satisfy some or
all of these componenets:
*blind comparison with gold standard
*second test set
*sensitivity of test
*specificity of test
*likelihood ratio
*post-test probability

I will summarize to the list.

Thanks,

Tanya

Barcroft, Joseph: Muscular exercise at low barometric perssure. Arch
Sci Biol
Napoli. 1931, v. 16, p. 609-15

but cannot find the journal (Archivio di Scienze Biologiche Napoli)

Every source I've used (including Locator+, CISTI, BL, Hollis, Melvyl,

Subject: Help with finding article

One of my docs is looking for an article that he saw referenced
"somewhere"
and would like to recieve a hard copy of...I have looked in Google, but
the
numbers are overwhelming so I thought one of you might remember having
seen
such a reference. Here is what I know...(at least what I was told)
A national study was done at the University of Michigan (business
school???) that taked about relationships between members of Boards of
Directors ....i.e. how many are related, know one another, etc. before
being
appointed to the Boards. He said the article was about "degrees of
separation" --though it might not have called them that--and that they
mentioned 4-5 degrees of separation rather than the usual 3.
Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Hoping for some reaction to a Friday afternoon question....
