I agree with Jeff -
I think the first priority is to have someone who
knows how to keep the technology up and running -
broken machines and networks means NO technology
integration at all. That being said - the person who
is truly in charge of leading a district's tech
planning for students and staff must have some
understanding of curriculum and, more importantly, how
to reach adult learners (our teachers) and students.
I feel that our most important mission is to ensure
that our teachers are trained to integrate technology
in the classroom through good professional development
and a good technology leader. Does this require a
teachers's license, no - but it is a complex job that
requires understanding that goes beyond how machines
work. Fortunately, we have many tech leaders who are
up to the charge!
