It has a valid IP address correct? Can you ping anything inside the
network? You can do this a couple of ways; using terminal or going to
/applications/utilities/network utility. Personally I prefer to do it in
terminal but the Network Utility has a nice gui interface. If you can't
ping anything, then it is probably either the cable or the nic provideed
you have a valid IP address.

A grant brought this OS 10 machine into the building and, now that it
here I can't seem to get it to access the internet. Settings under
Preferences/Proxies don't seem to help. An OS 9 machine next to it
