13 people, all suffering severe cabin fever,
showed up for the monthly monitoring of West
Rutland Marsh this morning.
Highlights of the day included 3 vociferous
ravens, 1 pileated woodpecker, 1 wild turkey (in
flight), 1 ruffed grouse, and a beaufiful view of
a low-soaring red-tailed hawk. Also, the covey of
mourning doves in the sunny gravel pit described
by Roy Pilcher so poetically last month has
increased to 41.
15 species were tallied in all, not including one
dead and thoroughly frozen Leghorn chicken
(proving there really is no good reason to cross
the road).
Also seen were pussy willows!
