We're about in the middle of winter and a lot of the usual winter
birds don't seem to be around too much. We've seen lots of tree sparrows,
juncos, rough-winged hawks, and horned larks. But where are the redpolls,
the evening and pine grosbeaks, the snow buntings, the Lapland longspurs,
and even the snowy owls? We realize that lots of these species are
cyclical, but it's odd that all of the cycles seem to be bottoming out at
once.
