"My" barred owl was back again today, staying most of the morning
and part of the afternoon. I had to leave about 2 pm, so I don't
know if it came back later. Saw him make one more unsuccessful
try at a red squirrel, but he did catch another rodent later,
probably a vole. I'm amazed by how unconcerned he is about human
activity. He definitely sees us moving in the house, but doesn't
seem to mind. Same with occasional passing cars (about 120 ft.
away) and the neighbor's dogs (about 350 ft.). He didn't even fly
when my wife pulled into the driveway, parked her car (about 50
ft. away) and walked to the house in full view. Interestingly,
the Blue Jays stayed away today, probably the first day since
November that there were no Jays at the feeders. The other birds
came in near-normal numbers. I wonder how long these visits will
continue?
