Enjoyed seeing 1 male common merganser on the nearby E. Dorset pond Feb.
21. 3 females on Dorset Marsh on Feb. 19.
Also watched another perched Cooper's Hawk in area. With a great, lengthy
view I determined this was definitely not the same bird seen several days
earlier. From the back this bird showed several white splotch marks on
both folded wings. It was easy to see the graduated round white tipped
feathers in the tail from a front view. An area around the eye was quite
rufous (orangy) in color with darker feathers on the top of head. This
was a 1st yr bird with heavy brown streaks on breast.
Just fun to try to work through the sharpie /Cooper possibilities.
