This morning while filling my tube feeder, several chickadees came
in to investigate, as they often do. As soon as the level of the
seed reached the lowest feeder hole, one of them flew in, grabbed
a seed and flew off to a nearby branch, all while I was still
pouring seed into the feeder. When I finished, I stepped back one
step and put my finger across the perch at the feeder hole. The
chickadee immediately flew in again, and for a brief second,
actually sat on my finger, parakeet style. He left very quickly,
seeming to have realized what he had just done. I stayed for a
few more minutes, and he flew in very close several times, wanting
to get to the feeder, but he couldn't get up the courage to repeat
his act of bravery. But he sure made my day!
