On my way up to Burlington yesterday, I stopped at Dead Creek. Saw
about a dozen pairs of Green-Wing Teals, a pair of Northern Shovelers, half
a dozen Common Mergansers, lots of Mallards and Canada Geese, and the
notorious Graylag Geese.
The Osprey platform north of Rt. 17 (the one with three legs) is
occupied with a nesting pair. There are still a fair number of dead carp
around north of the causeway with lots of Ring-Bill Gulls in attendance.
The wind was blowing in from the north and the stench was pretty bad.
I also noticed a miniature kettle (3 members) of broad wings over
the Shoreham sewage treatment plant, and the pair of Wood Ducks in the Lemon
Fair downstream from Richville Dam seem to have taken up permanent
residence.
