Hello,
Stopped down at Red Rocks Park this afternoon and atop a large white-barked
tree near the picnic area I saw the female Merlin, preening in the sun and
occasionally calling. I also had the pleasure of observing a pair of Pileated
Woodpeckers copulate and then adjust themselves for some time afterward.
Gorgeous birds. One question for whoever heard or spotted the carolina wren
at the park: where was this bird? I heard a call the other day that I thought
might be the wren in the thicker brush to the left of the entrance. Are these
wrens relatively rare for Vermont? What's their breeding status? The last
time I saw one was on a trip to S. Carolina some years ago. Thanks.
