It looks for

It looks for other "spam phrases".
It looks at where the email seems to have originated...
PureMessage will insert "x-" headers into your email message
explaining what is found and assigned point to.
Most email clients have a "show all headers" feature
you can use to see how it is working.
We recommend you "just watch" at first, perhaps count how many
SPAM?:## are really wanted messages, how many SPAM?:### ...etc.
