Dear Prof. Levins! You will find attached the Call for Papers and Preliminary Program of our 2nd. Biennial International Complexity Seminar  and Parallel Workshop on Complex Biological Systems (Havana, January 7-10th, 2004).
As you know, the idea of the Parallel Workshop on Complex Biological Systems goes back to your proposal when we met during your Havana visit.
Initially, as we wrote you,  we wanted to organize the Workshop on the first days of the following week to the Seminar, but it did not work that way because of the costs involved with the Palacio de las Convenciones for additional days. So we scheduled it during the days of the Seminar but as a PARALLEL Event in a separate room.   
This brings its benefits too, because those attending the Workshop will then be able (at no additional cost) to attend the Opening and Closing Plenary Sessions of the Seminar (and any other of its activities that they wished). As there will be some very well known personalities in the Seminar, this we think will be of interest to the Paticipants in the Workshop.
So far we have you, Stuart Newman, Martha Herbert participating, as well as the lady that came with you when we met in Havana. And  from the people that have said to us that will come to the Seminar, I think Daniel Brooks, Brian Goodwin, George Kampis could be interested  in participating also in some of the Workshop´s Sessions.  
We are trying to contact Lynn Margulis also. Stanley Salthe might come, but this is not sure because of personal problems yet to be solved.
If you have other names already contacted or if you want us to contact other names, please send them to us with their e-mails.
As you will see in the Program, we have gathered a wide range of Cuban Co-Sponsoring Institutions, so we will have the presence of many Cuban Colleagues.
We would like you to send us a list of suggested topics for the Workshop, having in mind the final version of the Program. Take into account, please, the range of sponsoring institutions, so we could have interesting topics for everybody.
