The RFP for Title IID Competitive funds is now posted on the DOE Website - you'll see the URL below. We've tried to be very specific in the RFP, so PLEASE read it thoroughly before you e-mail with questions. This year's program is more narrowly focused on: Development of student technology literacy skills, integration of technology into curricula, and/or assessing the impact of your educational technology program.

The program this year has FIVE (5) grant areas and will distribute approximately $1.4 Million. The grant types are: One-to-One Student Computing Grants ($200,000); Program Assessment Grants ($100,000); Technical & Career Center/High School Collaboration Grant ($100,000); Basic Implementation Grants ($800,000); Statewide Partnership Grant ($200,000).

One new program this year is inspired by Maine's recent initiative to provide a laptop computer for every 7th and 8th grade student and teacher. In Vermont, the program will be called the "One-to-One Student Computing" program. The goal of this program is to examine and document the impact of ubiquitous computing on student performance and the integration of technology.

A second new program, "Technical & Career Center/High School Collaboration Grant", is designed to foster new collaborations between a Career/Technical Center with at least one high-needs sending high school. Two areas of focus for this grant will be to address gender inequities in highly technical programs and blending the best programmatic ideas from Career/Technical Center folks with those from high school staff. Of course the essential goal of this grant will be to focus on student and staff technology skills and/or technology integration.

A third new program is the "Program Assessment" grant. These small (up to $5000) grants are designed to support a full, systemic assessment or audit of the educational technology program at a school (or possibly district). This grant will require a local cash investment of 20% of the total cost and will give the school a clear roadmap of areas to address in order to make progress toward full integration of technology.

Applications are due no later than 4:00PM on Monday, November 10.

Superintendents will be notified via snail mail this week. Please inform those in your schools or districts about this program.
