Why does everyone ignore HP/Compaq when they look at new machines? We have
had little trouble with them, and the price points are significantly better
(The Top Floor in Middlebury handles HP/Compaq Ed sales). I did similar
comparison work last spring before embarking on a 3-year lease for our two
schools. My rationale is that all of the major manufacturers are using Intel
boards and chipsets, and the warranties are similar (actually I got 3-year
warranties with our desktops for no extra cost). I have had no trouble with
their support when needed.
We purchased Compaq laptops: $1172 for 14"/P4 2Ghz/256 or $1178 for Cel.
1.8/wireless/3yr acc dmg warranty (for our wireless lab)
HP/Compaq desktops: P4 2.4Ghz/256/40G/17" Compaq 7550 monitor for $720
