A Wilson's Storm Petrel, possibly the same bird observed by David Hoag
off Grand Isle yesterday, appeared off Charlotte Town Beach at about
10:00 this morning. It was first spotted by Ted Murin, who had it under
continuous observation for about ten minutes. Steve Antell and I also
observed it for several minutes, though our lower power scopes were not
able to hold it as long as Ted's Celestron.
It was pattering on the water, feeding in Storm Petrel manner. Ted was
able to see that it was finding food despite the absence of its usual
quarry.
The bird was last seen heading NNW.
Ted speculated that it "bounced" off the south end of the lake and is
headed back north in search of more suitable waters.
