It's interesting that the exciting SCOTER drop on Wed. moved out by
nightfall, as per Mike R's report. I first saw about 30 come into my
nearby pond about 7a.m. The neighors on the pond alerted me about an hour
later of a raft of 100 or so - 'stange black ducks.' During my observation
they all stayed in a very tight, synchronized raft in the very middle of
the pond. They disappeared at dusk, presumably to continue their noctural
migration.
My memory suggests that this was my first sighting of SURF SCOTER here. I
have seen both Black and White-winged on the S. Village Pond in E. Dorset
before.
