We saw the following 31 species of birds at Tomhannock R. near Raymertown,
NY on RT 7 between Bennington and TRoy and nearby farm pond. This is a
great place for waterfowl in the late fall. with always a variety and the
unexpected. Sunny to partly cloudy, 60's.
Great Blue Heron (2)
Snow Goose 100 or so. These were in area S. of Rt 7. We have rarely seen
them here over the years; usually at N. end.
Green-winged Teal - 12+
American Black Duck (24)
American Wigeon - few
Ruddy Duck -good numbers
Turkey Vulture -2
** Bald Eagle - adult. First spotted by the 'first time birder' in our group
Sharp-shinned Hawk (2)
Red-tailed Hawk (8)
Yellow-shafted Flicker (en route to the reservoir)
We also saw a tree cricket, grasshoppers, meadowhawks, sulphurs (5),
Monarchs (about 13), and a Lady species.
We saw 2 collared Canada Geese. Their tags were "A ? 2" and "A ? 5".
