Hi everyone,
(apologees to those on both my upe list and on the cssalist for getting this 2x..)
The Linux Install Tutorial and Install Party were both a great success!
We started off the series with our tutorial on Friday evening at 6:00pm,
some attendees were in and out, in the end we ranged from 17 to about 30.
The attendees were of mixed backgrounds, including some (who seemed to
me to be) Linux pros to beginners. We had cs students, bio students, and
other uvm students, along with a few from the VAGUE list.
Ange went through the dry run in the tutorial (installing SuSe 9.?),
explaining the steps, and providing useful tidbits of knowledge and
advice. She successfully completed the dry run in about 1hour, 45 minutes
(alot faster than my install today!).
Today (Saturday) we had people dropping in and out as well, ranging
between 13 and 20. We provided some caffinated beverages (some of the
thickest coffee I've ever had...) and cocoa, along with cookies and
vanilla flavored merengues . Mm.
There was plenty of help for those of us who were not quite so experienced
with Linux and hardware (primary master? secondary slave? huh?... now I
understand...!) The weather was a nice compliment to the install party,
cozy friendly linux people inside, crazy snowy blizzard outside.
All in all, I had a great time.
Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen, special thanks to Ange for
all her work on the tutorial and setting up the cyber cafe. Thanks to all
the Linux 'pros' who helped out today, and to all those who attended.
I know this was a long email.. Hopefully I haven't taken too much of your
email reading time :)
Looking forward to finals (ha!),
