Hector Galbraith and I reached a critical mental point and needed therapy - so we spent most of today out birding. Richard Foye joined us for the early part of the day.
Beginning early at Herrick's Cove: highlight of day was Common Moorhen seen on CT River side near the point, along the reeds. Also: Gray Catbird, Swamp Sparrow, Black-and-White Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Warbling Vireos, Great Blue Herons, Common Merganser, White-crowned Sparrows, Blue-winged Warbler, Double-crested Cormorant, American Black Ducks, Wood Ducks, Green-winged Teal, Lesser Yellowlegs,, Osprey, Brown Creeper, Eastern Kingbird, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, along with many year-round residents and other common species.
At Allen's Marsh add: Yellow Warbler, Barn Swallow, Virginia Rail, Red-bellied Woodpecker.
In wetlands along Route 5 in Westminster add: Solitary Sandpiper and Killdeer.
At Putney Meadows add: Easter Wood-Peewee, Yellow-throated Vireo, Least Flycatcher, Turkey Vulture, Rose-breasted Grosbeak.
At Brattleboro Retreat Meadows add: Field Sparrow, Savannah Sparrow.
Along trail to Mt. Wantasitquet add: Red-tailed Hawk, Hermit Thrust, Blue-headed Vireo, Pine Warbler.
