Would like to add to the growing list of recent waxwings sightings.
I just bought a little house in Brandon that I am getting ready to move
into. Last week a friend helped me daylight a tiny spring-fed stream on the
property that had been buried by some prior occupant (and thus diverted
underground into the basement, one wonders what they were thinking...).
Today as I stood pondering about how to landscape my new little water
feature, a flock of Cedar waxwings descended and began drinking out of the
stream barely 10 feet from where I was standing. For several minutes I
stood quietly and watched them fluttering down from the surrounding trees to
the stream, drink and splash a little, then gather together in one of the
trees before flying on to wherever they were headed next. About 20 or so,
I'd guess. In my delight I forgot to count.
I thought it a lovely welcome to my home-to-be.
