The hills are alive, with the sound of...Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers!
On a walk over Irish Hill on Saturday, saw two (possibly three) YB
Sapsuckers drumming, calling, and chasing. A very noisy bunch.
Most of the other birds were down on Berlin Pond, (directly below
Irish Hill), but still saw several robins, chickadees, and song sparrows,
one woodcock,one ruffed grouse, and one palm warbler.
Lots of evidence of pileated -- big fresh excavations and piles of
fresh chips, but did not see any actual birds.
