You've got a lot of clients so I would use a powerful box. Are you
planning to have the web cache on the same box? If so, I would go with
dual processors, Max Ram and the fastest scsi drives on the market. I do
see some performance gains when DG and the web cache are separated out
onto different machines but that may jack up the expense so that it is
out of reach. Talk to Jake Kane at South Burlington. They are the only
ones I know servicng the numbers of clents you are talking about with
DG and Squid. I belive Essex is about to go live with a similar set up.
You could also give them a call.

We are planning on setting up a Dans Guardian server (on LINUX) to do
filtering. Although I have an abundance of notes & suggestions from the
South Burlington conference, I am wondering what others are running for
server specs in a production environment (We will have to order a new
server). We have about 1000 stations that can access the Internet.
Also any tips on the setup are greatly appreciated.
