I contacted you earlier this year about finding students to fill the
scholarships we have available through Southeastern Vermont
Audubon. Sadly, there were no takers.
I would like to talk with you about devising a better strategy for filling
our scholarships next year. This year I distributed fliers through the
office of the local middle and high school in Brattleboro in late May. I
then followed this up be emailing all the science teachers giving them the
link to the website and explaining that we could send several kids to camp
this summer (only asking for a nominal parental contribution of 50 or so
bucks). All we required is that the teachers select interested students
and have the kids submit a short paragraph about why they want to go to
camp. Seemed pretty easy to me, but I only heard back from one
teacher. When I contacted that teacher in late April to touch base, she
said she simply did not have time to tell the kids about the scholarship
program. I then held a last ditch emergency meeting with the school
guidance councilor to see if we could coordinate with interested kids, but
it was really too late by then and I've had no response as of this week.
I'm so disappointed!! What would you suggest I do better next year....
