Hi Folks:
I snuck out before work for a little more than one hour this morning around
sunrise. I started in South Burlington on Spear Street. Took Irish Hill
Road which connected to Pond St, eventually ending at Shelburne Pond. Most
of the activity was noted from the road as it bisects the marsh at the south
end of the pond.
Species noted:
Double-crested Cormorant
American Bittern - 2 heard
Turkey Vulture
Canada Goose
Wood Duck
Mallard
Northern Harrier
Virginia Rail - 3 heard (of which one was seen well for several brief
moments)
Sora - 3 heard
Ring-billed Gull
Rock Pigeon
Mourning Dove
Northern Flicker
Blue Jay
American Crow
Tree Swallow - numerous over the pond
Barn Swallow
Black-capped Chickadee
White-breasted Nuthatch
House Wren
American Robin
Gray Catbird
Brown Thrasher - 2 singing, my first of the year
European Starling
Yellow Warbler - several singing at multiple locations, my first of the year
Ovenbird - 1 singing at the boat ramp, my first of the year
Eastern Towhee
Chipping Sparrow
Savannah Sparrow - 1 singing along Pond St.
Song Sparrow
Swamp Sparrow - numerous singing in the marsh
White-throated Sparrow
Northern Cardinal
Red-winged Blackbird
Common Grackle
Brown-headed Cowbird
