Yesterday (Sunday), on a small pond set back from Bostwick Rd. in
Shelburne, my husband and I watched four pairs of Canada geese, each with
five goslings of various ages. The smallest ones were trying very hard to
learn the proper feeding technique from their parents and there was much
waving of little gosling feet as they attempted to reach a tasty morsel
under the surface. Truly delightful. Also seen were tree and barn
swallows, eastern kingbirds, robins, a turkey, bobolinks, starlings, a
large accipiter hunting over the fields, a muskrat and a groundhog. At
home in Charlotte, a male rose-breasted grosbeak stopped by the feeders.
