Really you need both. RAID (at least mirroring, but RAID 5 is better) is
needed for hardware redundancy.... the tape backup is needed for situations
like people deleting files, or needing to go back to an earlier version;
and most important for offsite disaster recovery--if you lose your whole
server, there's a fire, flood or the like...
So, if your data is important, you really should have both.
Servers can run into money!!
