This is the Vermont bird report for Friday, July 2, 2004 covering the period
June 26 – July 2, 2004.

            A COMMON LOON was seen on Kent Pond in Killington on June 26th,
and four were sighted on the 29th and July 1st off Grand Isle.

            Sightings of COMMON MERGANSERS with young as well as 8 HOODED
MERGANSERS were made on Lefferts Pond in Chittenden on the 27th and 29th of
June, respectively.

            An immature BALD EAGLE was spotted at Dead Creek on June 26th.

            Also seen at Kent Pond were a SPOTTED SANDPIPER and chick on the
26th.

            Two SWAINSON’S THRUSHES were seen on Mt. Ascutney on June 30th.

            Lefferts Pond also produced two NORTHERN PARULAS on the 27th of
June.

            On the 29th three CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS were observed on Grand
Isle.

            Although not technically in Vermont, a BLACK SKIMMER was seen on
Lake Champlain – on the breakwall at Le Bistro (formerly a yacht club) just
south of the Marina in Westport, NY on  June 29th – just across the Lake
from Button Bay State Park, as the crow flies.
