I'm hoping someone can help with my home-made oxidation furnaces. We have run
out of factory made Thermo Finnigan ones and am not getting reproducibility
with the ones I make with 1X Cu 1X Ni 1X Pt as recommended by them. The only
thing I notice is that even tho the wire OD's are 0.1mm for Cu and Pt the
Nickel is 0.127mm. Could this be a problem?
The 3 wires are twisted together before insertion in the ceramic furnace ,
oxidised 12 hr 600C and 12 hr 940C- the first run is good for standards, but
no's get progressively lighter. I never had this trouble with 2X Cu and 1X Pt
and leaks are fine (16mV @ 20:1 split).
